The Jackson County Historical Society honors the memories of John and Lottie Cianciolo, tireless volunteers for the society who passed away recently.

John, 94, and Lottie, 90, “died at home within days of each other, just as they wanted,” according to the family’s obituary.

Over many years both focused their time and attention on the 1859 Jail, Marshal’s Home & Museum in Independence, owned and operated by the Society.

John was an electrician; whenever there was a lighting issue at the Jail, he would repair it. He also enjoyed giving jail tours to area students. Lottie, meanwhile, served for about 10 years as the Jail’s volunteer coordinator.

“Whatever the task was, John and Lottie would do it,” said Steve Noll, former Jackson County Historical Society executive director.

Services are scheduled Friday, March 5.

The Cianciolo family has suggested John and Lottie could be honored by donating to the Jackson County Historical Society, 112 W Lexington, Suite 120, Independence, Mo., 64050, or online at www.jchs.org.
