JCHS Expands Storage for Future Growth
The Jackson County Historical Society, under the direction of the Archives and Collections Committee Chair, Stephanie Rohr and Archivist Danielle Hall is excited to share the addition of an underground cave storage facility as our new depository for archival and artifact collections. The approximate location will not be shared at this time due to security measures.
An assessment of archival and artifact collections was started in March 2021 and concluded in September 2021. The assessment was presented to the Board of Directors in October 2021 after the assessment concluded that JCHS was no longer able to accept anymore donations from the community based on severe storage limitations. Current storage conditions also proved to show increased risks to the collection.
Due to the generous gift from the Frank Jennings Trust by Virginia Jennings Nadeau, a former JCHS president, the Jackson County Historical Society was financially able to begin the process of acquiring a new storage location, purchasing additional storage shelves, and hiring a professional moving team.
With the help of leasing agents at Newmark Zimmer, Stephanie Rohr, and Danielle Hall, an appropriate space was located and secured. JCHS will begin moving storage shelving donated to JCHS to the new location starting in January 2022 followed by collections stored in a private space, the 1859 Jail Museum, and materials at the Historic Truman Courthouse. This will be conducted in phases over a period of time.
We now will welcome large scale collections to enhance JCHS’s collection. If you are interested in donating materials to JCHS, please contact Danielle Hall at danielle.hall@jchs.org
