CHRIS STOUT RESIGNS FROM JCHS; SEARCH FOR NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR BEGINS SOON

Chris Stout, Jackson County Historical Society Executive Director, has resigned.

Stout joined the Society last November. During the time he led the organization, Stout helped Society staff members, directors and volunteers address several challenges. Those included the ongoing renovation of the 1859 Jail Museum, as well as the secure long-term storage of the Society’s archival holdings, many of which now have been moved to subsurface space in Independence.

“The mission at JCHS is a valuable one and one that I feel should be championed in every corner of the community,” Stout said in his letter of resignation, submitted July 28.

Brian Burnes, Society president, thanked Stout for his service.

“I believe the Society is far better positioned to move forward today than it was when Chris first arrived,” Burnes said.

“We thank Chris for all his efforts on the Society’s behalf and we wish him well going forward.”

A committee consisting of Society board members soon will begin the search for a new executive director, Burnes added.
