In celebration of Preservation Month, David Jackson, local historian, will be presenting information about his book “Lockdown” and will be giving an overview of the history of the 1859 Jail.

The Independence Square is hosting “Wine, Brew and Spirits TOO!”.
JCHS will be outside the 1859 Jail Museum and the museum will be open late for self guided tours.
Swirl, sip and stroll in and out of various business locations during our 9th Annual event to benefit the Independence Square.
Stroll the historic Independence Square Friday, June 7 from 6-9pm (VIP ticket holders start at 5pm) while sampling local and regional wine, brews, and spirits. Bring a lawn chair to set up your "base camp" and enjoy live music, food and carefully curated vendors in the Wine Garden on Liberty Street. With 15+ tasting locations you and your friends are sure to have a fun night out.
After the walk ends, hang around for live music at 3 Trails Brewing and at the outdoor patio Between the Bricks at Courthouse Exchange. Tickets start at just $25.
Celebrate Santa-Cali-Gon Days at the 1859 Jail Museum! We will have discounted admission, living history interpreters, and guided tours on the hour.
Weekend nights in October, hear about the gruesome history of the 1859 Jail Museum. Some nights are strictly history tours, some nights are paranormal investigations.
See the jailer’s house dressed for a “Civil War Christmas”. Discounted admission on the evening of Living Windows for self guided tours or peer through our windows.
A fun night of Harry S. Truman trivia on the the historic independence Square with the Jackson County Historical Society.
In honor of Truman Day, the Jackson County Historical Society is hosting Truman Trivia. Truman Day is celebrated each year on the Independence Square, the Saturday before Harry S. Truman's birthday. Teams of 4 will compete against each other to see which team knows the most about Harry S. Truman. The winners will recieve a prize!
Only one ticket is needed for a team of 4 players.
All ages event.
In honor of Harry S. Truman’s birthday, we will be celebrating Truman Day on May 4th. We will have half off admission, guided tours, and celebratory treats!
The 1859 Jail reopens for the 2024 season on April 2nd! Open from 11am until 4pm, see the jail, jailer’s home, and the exhibit space housing JCHS’ collections!

Interested in volunteering? Stop by the 1859 Jail Museum on March 16th from 9am to 12pm to volunteer in our garden! We need help pulling weeds, planting bulbs, picking up wood, and plenty of other things! B.Y.O.T. (bring your own tools). We hope to see you there!

The Jackson County Historical Society JCHS Spring Picnic is Saturday, May 20, 2023, from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. on the Alexander Majors Historical House lawn. This is a FREE event for all to attend. We will have picnic games and lots of family fun. Bring your own picnic basket and join us for a beautiful Spring Day at a beautiful historic home.
