The Potawatomi Trail of Death through Jackson County, Missouri
The Spring 2007 issue of the Jackson County Historical Society JOURNAL had a great feature article on the Trail of Death by contributing author Shirley Willard. Tonight, Mary Conrad presents at the Shawnee Indian Mission on this tragic event that is part of local Kansas City and Jackson County History. She spent 2 1/2 days finding most of the Trail of Death markers in northern Indiana. There are a handful of marked campsites where the Potawatomi camped throughout Jackson County on their forced march of 1838. An effort is underway to try and raise funds to erect road signage leading travelers through the area along the route where these events took place so long ago. For more information about tonight's presentation, visit the Shawnee Indian Mission's website found on the "Jacomo Bookmark" link at the top of this HistorE-calendar.

For more information about the
Trail of Death, visit their official website: http://www.trailofdeath.org or http://www.potawatomi-tda.org. Copies of the Jackson County Historical Society JOURNAL may be purchased for $5 each while quantities last.
