Grace Kemper Toll Describes the 1900 Century Ball

 

The Spring 2001 JOURNAL of the Jackson County Historical Society features Grace Kemper Toll Describes the 1900 Century Ball, courtesy of her granddaughter Louise Ottenville.  Grace Kemper was a daughter of F. T. Kemper, who founded the (now) Kemper Military Academy.  Grace married Phillip Riley Toll, who owned the Badger Lumber Company.  The couple lived at 3500 Warwick Boulevard in Kansas City when their daughter Nancy was born.  The excerpt from Mrs. Toll’s 1901 diary is available in the print version of the JOURNAL.  To obtain a copy, subscribe or join the JCHS click here.
